Things to Do in Goreme

Goreme sits at the heart of Cappadocia's surreal landscape, where centuries of wind and water have carved the volcanic rock into a forest of fairy chimneys and cave formations that look like something from another planet. This small town has managed to preserve its authentic character despite being one of Turkey's most photographed destinations - you'll still find locals going about their daily lives against a backdrop that's genuinely otherworldly. The town itself is compact and walkable, with cave hotels carved directly into the rock face, family-run restaurants serving home-cooked Turkish meals, and a pace of life that feels refreshingly unhurried despite the steady stream of hot air balloons floating overhead each morning.

The food scene revolves around hearty Turkish home cooking, often served in atmospheric cave restaurants. You'll find excellent pottery kebabs (cooked and served in clay pots), mantı (Turkish dumplings), and fresh bread baked in traditional ovens.
